Sitting Buddha

Sri Lanka

Origin: unknown
size: inches 3.5 (9 cm)
Provenance: Private aquisition, Colombo 1981

Buddha is sitting in "virasana mudra". This statue is made of bone, not of ivory. It was bought in Colombo but it seems uncertain whether it derives from India (Gupta or Uttar-Prades, 3rd until 10th century) or from Sri Lanka (Anuradhnapura), 3rd until 10th century)
