Head of Buddha

Pagan

Origin: unknown
size: inches 5.5 (15 cm)
Provenance: Private aquisition, Pagan 1981

The sculpture of the 10th century's Pagan style is characterized by unelongated earlobes and a high "ushnisha" with a long, slim flame. The eyebrow style shows a direct influence of the Indian Pala tradition.

The bronze head with a dark brown patina has a relative fresh breaking edge at the neck.
